I take pride in remembering and introducing the dogs
that started it all for the establishing of Lueo here in Canada.

It is time too, to remember the fine lady who taught me all that
was necessary to understand what it meant to breed a Golden Retriever.   That lady was Mrs. Eva Harkness who owned the world renowned kennel, "Mandingo".

You can find the name Mandingo way back in most of the pedigrees of Golden Retrievers that first came to Canada & the
USA.

I take pride in having Mandingo behind my dogs today.  Mandingo in Eva's own words describes the physic of her dogs.

Without much more, I now introduce my beloved Mandingo Dogs:

Travis as he was fondly known as;
or "Mandingo Traveller".

Travis was indeed a surprise package that arrived at Toronto Airport in the late spring of 1991.  What a shock I got. Up until I laid eyes on Travis, I had always known my Golden Retrievers as being dark to gold in colour.  When I went to collect Travis at the Cargo Department at Toronto Airport, I took this almost snow white puppy with buttercup coloured ears.  He had a beautiful head and a soft expression with a mischievous look in his eyes.
He was slow to mature & he was 7 years of age before he gained his Canadian Championship title.  While we waited for him to grow up, we had a good bit of fun working him in the field and doing obedience with him.
He was a great stud dog and produced some of the finest Golden Retrievers I have ever bred. He would stamp his progeny with his beautiful head and expression and of course his blonde wavy coat!

The second Mandingo Dog that I imported from Mrs. Harkness was Mandingo Seafarer, fondly known as Liam.  Liam was a medium coloured gold, with the same gorgeous head and lovely sweet expression.   He did not live a long life, and died from an allergic reaction to a bee sting.

The third Irish dog I imported was a lovely female: Kerwall Quick Penny, fondly known as  Nora.  Nora gained her Canadian Championship in a short time and went Best of Breed, Group First and Best in Show.  She was a beautifullly put together female and her pedigree was a combination of some of the newer bloodlines in Ireland and some winning dogs like  Papata Philosopher,  Galaith Crown Prince of Tyrol and went back to  the Sandwood & Mandingo  kennels in her pedigree.  Nora too, stamped her female progeny with her temperament and personality.   She was a sweet dog but she was a no nonsense female who rules the young dogs with a firm hand and they knew not to cross her without her uttering a growl!

The Fourth Irish dog I imported was "Mandingo Mairead",  fondly called "My Mairead.  She was a lovely dog & think really typified the type of Golden that Mrs. Harkness liked.  This was one of the last litters that Mrs. Harkness bred. Mairead a big doggy female with the most gorgeous head and expression.  She was a daughter of Eva's "Damselfly Nymph of Mandingo" & Rainscourt Fall Guy who was a son of well known stud dog Stanroph Sailor Boy... Mairead resembled Sailor boy right down to his movement... I loved her dearly and it was my deepest regret that I could never finish her; but she hated being shown & choose not to subject her to it. She excelled in field work and obedience.  She was a great brood bitch and produced some outstanding dogs.

These four dogs are the foundation of my small kenenl; and are
behind the dogs that I have bred and own today.
